At first sight all spiral wraps may look alike. But if you take a closer look, you will see that there is a different cable wrap for different needs.

While many cable organizers are commonly used in offices or photo studios, spiral wrap tubing in moredemanding environments must also withstand special conditions. For example, they must be flame-retardant or resistant to heat and chemicals.

Some tubings are characterized by outstanding abrasion and crush resistance. Others offer easy installation with an applicator tool.

However, all cable wraps have one thing in common: They bundle cables and protect themall in one go. Whatever the requirements for your individual cable management needs may be: We have the right solution for you.

Heat- and chemical-resistant PTFE spiral tubings

Spiral cable wraps for high temperatures

Heat- and chemical-resistant spiral wrap SBPTFE covers the largest temperature range of all HellermannTyton spiral wraps. It permanently withstands temperatures of up to 260°C and is even operable up to max. 350°C intermittent operating temperatures.

Thanks to its outstanding heat-resistant properties, this PTFE spiral wrap is primarily used for cable management in the aerospace and defence industry.

With its self-extinguishing material properties according to UL94 V0, the SPTFE flexible tubing is already designed for the trends of tomorrow. It is ideal for the requirements of future mobility –for example in the fields of urban air mobility (UAM) like urban drone delivery solutions.

Hydraulic hose protection wraps

Abrasion- and crush-resistant spiral wrap tubing

Heavy-walled SPF spiral binding is perfect wherever wires are exposed to greater demands and need to be protected accordingly – for example, hydraulic lines in construction machinery.

Advantagesof spiral hose wrap for hydraulic linesat a glance:

  • Thick-walled and very tough
  • Provides perfect protection against mechanical stress
  • Abrasion and oil resistant
  • Suitable for larger cable bundles up to 50 mm

Fields of application of this spiral wire loom are, among many others, in forestry, agriculture and construction vehicles as well as in the sector of oil and gas. For instance, heavy-duty SPF spiral hoses ensure the availability of machines by helping safeguardagainst breakdowns.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a cable wrap?

A cable wrap is primarily designed to bundle cables and wires while protecting them at the same time. Unlike standard cable ties or adhesive tapes, for example, which are intended for single use, flexible spiral wraps can usually be applied several times.

Spiral wrap tubings are ideal for retrofittingpre-installed wiring. Without having to separate or dismantle the wires, spiral wrap tubings can easily be attached afterwards. Onceinstalled, individual cables or wirescan be branched offat any point between the spiral gaps.

Whether halogen-free, heat-resistant or with standard properties: Spiral wraps are available in a wide variety of materials, colours and lengths.

How to select the right cable wrap?

To select the right spiral wrap, you should ask yourself one question: What requirements must a cable sleeving meet to suit my application?

The choice of material is a key factor here. You should ask yourself:

  • Does the material have to be halogen-free or, for example, flame-retardant?
  • Does it perhaps even require EN45545-2 approval?
  • Does my spiral wrap have to be resistant to chemicals?

The environment or the field of application is an important factor for choosing the right spiral wrap material. Furthermore there are spiral wraps in different lengths and colours. Does the sleevinghave a specific colour for visual identification?

All these questions can be answered by HellermannTyton product experts, who are happy to advise you on the choice of the perfect cable wrap. Contact us here.

How to install spiral wraps?

Compared to other tubing, HelaWrap is applied with its own applicator tool. Thanks to this, HelaWrap can be installed or removed in seconds, similar to closing or opening a zipper. Other spiral tubes are usually installed by wrapping manually. This is verysimple but takes more time.

Step 1: First you should know the outside diameter of your cable bundle, because the spiral tube should be smaller than your bundle. This prevents the cables from slipping later.

Step 2: Choose a spiral wire loom of the required length or shorten it if necessary. Then start wrapping the spiral around your cable bundle and work your way to the opposite end – similar to attaching insulating tape.

Step 3: If you want to branch off single cables out of the spiral tube, do this at the appropriate place during the winding process. If you want to do this later, the spiral must be wound back to the appropriate place, unless you use the HelaWrap system.

If required, you can also unwind your spiral cable wrap completely and reuse it in another place.

Good to know: The longer the distance between the spirals during winding, the more you can bend your cables afterwards. The tighter you wind the spiral, the less flexibility you have afterwards – but the abrasion resistance is much higher.
