We are currently seeking 2 part time Phlebotomists to join our busy but friendly team at Peterborough City Hospital. Phlebotomists are responsible for the collection of blood samples by venepuncture from patients attending the hospital either as an inpatient or an outpatient.
Previous experience is preferred however, our main priority is to find people with the values, attitudes and behaviours that match ours and therefore, we are happy to provide training and support for the right candidate.
Main duties of the job
The team provides phlebotomy services to the in-patient wards at Peterborough City Hospital. As part of North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, staff are expected to be able to work at our other sites including Hinchingbrooke Hospital and Stamford Hospital if required.
As a phlebotomist your duties would include:
- Explaining the procedure to patients and providing reassuranceif needed.
- The collection of blood samples by venepuncture.
- Accurate identification of patients and labelling of samples.
- Delivering the samples to the laboratory within required timescales.
- Collating information regarding patient statistics, audit and patient surveys.
Phlebotomy experience is preferred but not essential. Please see the Job Description and Person Specification to ensure this is the job for you.
Duty periods will be mainly between 08.00-12.30 hrs.
Applicants must be able to work flexibly over a 7 day rota which includes weekends and Bank Holidays.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As a phlebotomist you are responsible for the collection of blood samples by venepuncture from patients attending the hospital either as an inpatient or outpatient.
The post holder is responsible for following the correct procedures in order to ensure safety of patients and themselves. This will include identifying any risks and managing them appropriately, including clear identification of specimens that are an infection hazard and appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
The cleanliness and maintenance of all equipment used by the phlebotomist should be checked as required and any faults reported immediately as per the relevant SOP (standard operating procedure). If necessary, the operator will need to implement the BCP (Business Continuity Plan) to ensure continuity of the service.
