How to check Dell part number? ›

The Service Tag and Express Service Code are found on the front of the system by pulling out the information tag. Alternatively, the information might be on a sticker on the back of the chassis. The Dell EMC service tag is a five or more character identifier that is unique to your product.

The label containing the device name and model number is usually located on the bottom of the device. The model number and name is also located on the original packaging of the device.

A manufacturer's label can be seen on the bottom of most laptops. The model number, serial number, and other details are typically included. The label might also be on the laptop's side or back.

Type cmd in the Windows search bar at the bottom-left of the screen, then select Command Prompt from the list of results. In the Command Prompt window, type wmic bios get serialnumber and press Enter . The Service Tag (Serial Number) appears as shown in the image below.

Latitude: Dell's corporate business line. “E” stands for the Latitude family; the second number refers to the series. The third number indicates the screen size (5 for 15-inch, etc.), and the last two numbers denote the generation of the family.

The laptop screen model number is found at the back of the LCD panel itself.

Desktop: On the bottom of the device, look for 'S/N' or 'SN'. Open a command prompt by using the Windows Search bar. Type in 'cmd'. Type in the command: 'wmic bios get serialnumber' without the quotes.

For laptops, the tag is located underneath the system, while for desktops, it is located on the back of the chassis. Alternatively, the "Command Prompt" can be used to find the tag.

To check your PC hardware specs, click on the Windows Start button, then click on Settings (the gear icon). In the Settings menu, click on System. Scroll down and click on About. On this screen, you should see specs for your processor, Memory (RAM), and other system info, including Windows version.

There is also occasionally a DPN (Dell Part Number) for the entire unit, which can be searched as a backup. Dell batteries always have a 'type' number which is what you'll need to search for when looking for a replacement. There is also a DPN found within the serial number on a small white sticker.

On a Dell laptop. The service tag and express service code sticker is located on the bottom of the device on certain XPS and precision laptops. The sticker can be found under the device's metallic badge. Dell support ASIS can automatically scan the system and identify the service tag.
